Autism Rights Group Highland (ARGH) and Autistic Mutual Aid Society Edinburgh (AMASE) are working with the Scottish Government to strengthen the Autistic Community in Scotland by assisting in the creation of more Autistic People’s Organisations (APOs) – organisations run by and for autistic people.
We aim to do this by holding a series of small, free events around Scotland, leading up to a larger residential event in early April 2020 in Larbert, in the middle of Scotland’s Central Belt. These will be a chance to meet other autistic people and share ideas, with the residential event aimed at developing ideas for possible APOs and meeting people who might help.
APOs can be regional like ARGH and AMASE, or interest based, for example for autistic artists or musicians. They can represent a particular group of people, for example: people of colour, asylum seekers, teachers, LGBTQIA+ people, university students or workers – any group that could benefit from joining together and possibly becoming a representative voice for its members.
If you have any questions or you would like to be kept informed about the smaller events and be one of the first to know when registration for the residential event is open, please register your interest here:
Please note that registering an interest will not guarantee you a place at the event – places will be allocated once registration has closed. Priority will be given to autistic people who have ideas about the kind of organisation that they would like to build and have already connected with other autistic people who share their goals and can help in group building.
If you require assistance this must be provided by a carer who you should book a place for; we will not be providing any formal or professional individual help
This event and the smaller events are for autistic people only – you may bring support with you; your support person does not have to be autistic but would be expected to be attending in a supporting capacity only and not directly inputting into discussions with their own views.
